Fiber Optic Connector Specifications
SC
SC: An abbreviation for Subscription Channel connector. Originally developed by NTTŪ, a push- pull type of optical connector that features high packing density, low loss, low back reflection, and low cost. The duplex SC connector uses the same mating profile as the simplex design. The SC connectors are designed and manufactured according EIA/TIA and ANSI specifications for intermateability and optical performance.
ST
Developed by AT&TŪ, the ST connector (for Straight Tip) has been a perennial favorite for its termination simplicity and low cost. The ST connector type patch cords are offered in MM or SM version with PC polishing method.
MTRJ
A duplex fiber optic connector standard from AMP/Siecor, this connector is radically different than the other connectors shown, in large part due to the single ferrule that handles two fibers. This is the first of the Small Form Factor (SFF) connector designs to reach a measure of market acceptance. The MT-RJ is a variation of the reliable MT-ferrule connector series, the first major multi-fiber ferrule design. The MT-RJ connectors are designed to bring together the latest advances in precision molding and multi-fiber ferrule technology, providing the end user with an optical interface that is easier and more cost effective to install. At half the size of comparable duplex SC connectors, yet using the same space in patch panels and networking equipment as RJ-45 copper connectors, the MT-RJ connector doubles the capacity of existing networking infrastructures.
SMA
SMA connectors are specially designed for multimode data communication applications. SMA connectors are fully compatible with existing SMA hardware.
LC
A small form factor ceramic based connector developed by LucentŪ. The innovative LC design offers a form factor one-half the size of current industry standards, and simple features create a new definition of user-friendliness. The LC connector is manufactured to meet EIA/TIA 568A specifications for optical performance and intermateability. The LC Duplex fits into the RJ-45 standard cutout, and uses the smallest diameter cable jacket in the industry
